Welcome to Save of the Month! where each month we recognize a resident who went above and beyond to make a great save in the ED. Nominations are solicited from the faculty each block and we pick one resident for recognition and embarrassment on this blog.
This edition’s Save of the Month goes to. . . Dr. Joyce Wang!
Here’s the story . . .
I had a case that I wanted to submit for save of the month. I had this patient with Joyce Wang. He was a young guy who was VERY histrionic. He kept vomiting and running around his bed. He would not sit still and kept acting out. A few of us had seen him earlier this week and thought he was drug seeking. However, Joyce did not like the way he looked and wanted to scan his belly even though the patient had asked for narcotics including methadone by name. The CT was done and showed that the guy had intussusception. None of us had suspected this at all. He very easily could have been blown off as a drug seeker but he got the appropriate treatment for his disease thanks to Joyce. Please consider her for save of the month.
Congrats Dr. Wang!
