Welcome to Save of the Month! where each month we recognize a resident who went above and beyond to make a great save in the ED. Nominations are solicited from the faculty each block and we pick one resident for recognition and embarrassment on this blog.
This month’s edition goes to . . . Dr. Hannah LoCascio!
Here’s the story . . .
Patient came in complaining of chest pain with a history of HTN and back pain. Hannah initially was assigned to work in the main ED, and picked up the patient. She was concerned enough to initiate a work up on the patient immediately with a clinical suspicion for dissection. But then, Hannah was re-assigned to work in the triage and Fast Track. She continued to take care of her patients in the main side, including this woman; making sure she got her pain medication, labs, and CTA. While working in a completely different area, she diagnosed this woman’s dissection, consulted Thoracic surgery, Surgery, started BP medications, and transferred her to CCT. If it were not for Hannah, this patient would have been looked over as yet another chest pain patient waiting to be seen in the main ED.
Strong work and congrats Dr. LoCascio!
