Emergency Severity Index
What is it?
– A tool for Emergency Department Triage developed in 1999 by Dr. Richard Wuerz and Dr. David Eitel
- Goal: to prioritize patients based on urgency of treatment and how long the patient can wait.
– 5 levels: 1 (most urgent) to 5 (least urgent)
Categorizes patients by both acuity and resource needs
